The woman at the hotel check-in desk knew we were there for a religious retreat so when she asked if I needed one key or two she was a little shocked when I jokingly responded, "Just one key, unless I decide to pick up someone in town." My friend, P., hit me on the arm and replied, "This is why you need to be here, because you are a ho!" It's comments like the one about the key that set me apart from the rest of my church-going friends and that kept me feeling like an alien all weekend long.
It didn't help that I had a bad attitude early on when I realized that my plans for a spa weekend were not going to happen. I was expecting to stay in a hotel with room service and a bell hop as well as a masseuse and a manicurist. The fact that I had to drive up to my hotel room door was my first clue that there would be no pedicures or massages on this trip. Needless to say, it was all downhill after that. By Saturday night, I was ready to go home.
The weekend wasn't without spiritual benefit though. I was blessed when two friends hunted me down just so they could pray for me. It was an act of love that I am sure will bear fruit down the road. But I must say that I will not be going on anymore retreats anytime soon unless I am certain that there will be pampering involved.

Well, that was very good, the friends that sought you out. At least you had one good moment out of it.
